Due to Coronavirus, there is going to be a huge change in the way banks operate. Indian Bank Association (IBA) has given instructions to keep the branch open and change the way of functioning in some selected areas. HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank have also started these services in routine.
In a letter to the bank heads, the IBA has requested that they work in consultation with the state administration for an appropriate plan to sustain their business.
The IBA had asked all banks to open only a few selected branches in the lockdown areas of the country in view of the outbreak of Coronavirus. The IBA has also requested the bank customers to use as many online and mobile banking channels as possible for transactions and not to go to the bank branches as far as possible so that the employees do not face any kind of risk.
Private sector HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank have informed customers about some changes in their functioning. Banks have asked their customers to use digital transactions as much as possible. Both banks have also reduced the number of employees in their offices as a precautionary measure.
HDFC Bank Change the Working Hours
HDFC Bank has changed its working hours. Now, the HDFC bank will be open from 10 am to 2 pm till 31 March. The bank has temporarily stopped passbook updates and foreign currency purchase facilities.
HDFC Bank has asked to put the check in the check drop-box itself to reduce congestion in the branches. The bank has said that customers can avail passbook updating and Forex card reload through the digital medium. Also, customers can avail of digital transaction services like NEFT, RTGS, IMPS and UPI. The bank has said that customers can pay utility bills through UPI.
At the same time, ICICI Bank informed its customers via SMS, ‘Special attention will be given to cleanliness in all our branches and the number of employees will be less’.
The bank said, “The number of employees in our contact center will also be small. We request you to be safe and use iMobile / Internet Banking from home for all necessary banking services”.
