Thousands of people are present in Delhi’s Anand Vihar and UP’s Kaushambi bus base to visit their homes. Life is so difficult for them in Delhi that they have to reach their village under any circumstances. These laborers, with their families at their head, are neither worried about social distancing nor fear of coronavirus.
DTC buses are taking these labourers from Delhi’s Anand Vihar bus base to Etah, Etawah, Jhansi, Agra, Bulandshahar, Gorakhpur, Lucknow. Workers going to Bihar and Jharkhand have no option. Delhi Police personnel are putting these workers in buses and putting them in buses.
Workers/labourers Gathered in Ghazipur
There is also a large crowd of labourers in Ghazipur in Delhi. There is no arrangement here. Some Delhi Police personnel are constantly explaining to them, but the workers are getting anxious with the passing time. The labourers have arrangements to eat and drink for a few hours, but there is a huge shortage of water and medicine. Some people from nearby residential areas are preparing food from home and giving it to them.
The chain of labourers on National Highway 24 adjacent to Delhi on-road, the workers along with their children have left for the village on foot. The pictures of this road are very touching. Children carrying the burden on their heads, women on carts, labourers pulling rickshaws are constantly going. Just get some water somewhere, then some loaves. This is the way to complete this journey.
The Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal and the Minister of the Central Government are repeatedly appealing to these laborers who are unemployed due to poverty, that all arrangements will be made for them in Delhi itself. These should remain where they are now, but the dictates have failed to win the trust of the workers.
