Kamlesh Tiwari who was assassinated on Friday 18th October 2019 was a Hindu nationalist politician who founded Hindu Samaj Party in the year 2017. He was killed on Friday in his Lucknow’s office cum residence and it is believed that his derogatory comment on ‘Prophet Muhammad’ being homosexual was the main reason for his murder.
The assailants came dressed up in saffron kurtas in order to give sweets box bearing the address of a Surat sweetshop. Later he was found shot dead and even his throat was slit. He was then immediately carried to the hospital where he was declared dead.
Tiwari’s Comment on Muhammad and Proceedings thereafter:
The Hindu Samaj Party leader retaliated to a statement made by a politician of Samajwadi Party Azam Khan on 2nd December 2015. Azam khan on one of his statements stated that Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh members are homosexual and hence they are not getting married. On the very next day, Tiwari responded back saying Muhammad was the first homosexual in the world.
Thousands of Muslims protested against Tiwari’s comment in Muzaffarnagar across the country and also demanded his death penalty. Some of the Muslim protestors demanded to behead or hanging him for commenting on Prophet Muhammad. Later he was arrested in Lucknow by UP police on 3rd December 2015.
He spent several months in jail and a case under section 153-A and 295-A were registered on him at the Police station of Naka Hindola. The severe protests of Islamic groups counter-protests by Hindu groups who accused Muslim community of demanding Islamic law enforcement in India. Allahabad High Court revoked the detention of Tiwari by UP police under the National security Act in the year 2016 and he was released on bail.
UP Police and CM Yogi Adityanath on Tiwari’s death:
Uttar Pradesh DGP confirmed that the murder of the Hindu leader was a radical killing and held his 2015 comment against Prophet Muhammad as the reason behind his assassination. DGP held a press conference in Lucknow and said “A joint team of UP and Gujarat Police has detained 3 persons and interrogating them. Their names are Maulana Mohsin Sheikh, Faizan, & Khurshid Ahmed Pathan. Two other accused were also detained but released later, they are being monitored.” He also added that no terror link was found with the case.
Meanwhile, Kamlesh’s family met with UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday afternoon for 30minutes. Post-meeting victim’s wife said that the Chief Minister has assured the family saying justice would be done. She also added that CM will keep an eye on the investigation and will ensure the punishment of the assailants.
It is also believed that the family has asked for granting the arms license for the purpose of security and requested CM to name their residential colony after the name of Kamlesh Tiwari.
In a nutshell, state police are actively working on Kamlesh Tiwari’s murder case along with the Anti-Terrorism Squad of Maharashtra and Gujrat in order to punish the actual criminals.
