All eyes will be set in Tokyo, in less than a year when the world’s extravagant sporting event, the ‘Olympics’ will take place. With the ticking of countdown clock for this quadrennial sport, India is once again setting big expectations and weaving dreams around their Athletes. However, 17 Indian athletes have qualified for Tokyo 2020 so far. Whereas, India is aiming at sending around 100 athletes for this grandest sports event.
India is fostering optimism and striving to enhance the country’s medal haul. So far, with 28 medals in 31 editions of summer games has proved that Indian athletes are all set to raise the flag high at Olympics 2020. In addition, a glimpse of optimism could be visualized when Olympics Silver medalist shooter and former Indian Sports Minister Col Rajyavardhan Rathore said that India would increase its medal count to 100 by the summer games of the year 2032.

India’s shooting segment is special as it has always the fore-front in International sports events. With Rathore winning a silver medal on the year 2004 at Athens Olympics followed by Abhinav Bindra won the first-ever gold medal in 2008 made shooting a distinctive sport. Apart from that on 2012 Gagan Narang and Vijay Kumar has won bronze and silver respectively. Vinesh Phogat became the first Indian wrestler to qualify for the Olympics 2020. She surpassed Olympics silver medallist Sarah Hildebrandt at World wrestling championship held at Kazakhstan by a commendable score of 8-2. Vinesh has also bagged gold medals at Asian games in last year September.
Men at wrestling are quite a way ahead with its 3 best forward ahead. Deepak Punia, Ravi Kumar Dahiya, and Bajrang Punia are the 3 qualifiers who qualified to showcase their wrestling expertise at Tokyo Olympics 2020.
Indian archers made an enthralling performance at Archery World Championship in the year 2019 after a disappointing performance in Rio 2016 Games. The trio comprising of Praveen Jadhav, Tarundeep Rai and Atanu Das sealed the entry of Archery in Tokyo Olympics 2020 with a consecutive winning performance in various archery championships.
However, the Indian women archery team fail to secure their position for Olympics 2020.
20 Km Race walking:
Kolothum Thodi Irfan was the first qualifier for Olympics 2020. He secured the fourth position on 20Km Race walking at Asian Race-Walking Championship held at Nomi, Japan. This win has sealed his entry as the first Indian Athlete for Tokyo Olympics.
In a nutshell, the Indian athlete squad is all set to hoist the glory flag high in Olympics 2020 in Tokyo. India is also aiming at increasing its participants in every segment. Moreover, the entire nation is counting days for the grandest event and expecting a greater number of medals from the participants than every year.
