ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020: Indian Cricket Team in Semifinal after Defeating New Zealand

Team India has reached the semi-finals of the World Cup after defeating New Zealand by 3 runs. With this, Team India reached the semi-finals of the World Cup for the fourth time. Earlier, India had traveled to the semi-finals in 2009, 2010 and 2018.

This is Team India’s third consecutive win in this World Cup. Team India has decided to eat Australia, then Bangladesh and now New Zealand all around.

Kiwi team, chasing the target of 134 runs of Team India, could manage 130 runs for 5 wickets in 20 over’s. In this victory of India, opener Shefali Verma scored a blistering 46 runs, while all the contribution from Team India was in the bowling. Brilliant performance of 16-year-old Shefali won the Player of the Match award for the second time in a row.


New Zealand Innings

New Zealand started off after chasing the target of 134 runs of Team India and in the second over, Shikha Pandey gave a big blow to New Zealand. He caught explosive looking Raquel Priest in the hands of Radha Yadav. Raquel could only score 12 runs and thus New Zealand’s first wicket fell.

After this, the spin attack of Team India started spreading its magic. On the fourth ball of the sixth over of the innings, Team India’s spinner Deepti Sharma bowled Suzie Bates on a personal score of 6 runs. After that Team India’s leg-spinner Poonam Yadav caught Captain Sophie Devine for 14 runs by Radha Yadav.

After three wickets fell, Maddy Green and Katy Martin combined to handle New Zealand’s innings and shared a 43-run partnership. Together, they scored a total of 26 runs in the 10th, 11th and 12th over. But in the 15th over, Rajeshwari Gaikwad caught Maddy Green caught by Tanya Bhatia on a personal score of 24 runs.

After this, Katy Martin was dismissed by 25 runs in the 17th over. Radha Yadav showed him the way to the pavilion.


Indian Innings

Team India’s women’s brigade scored 133 runs in 20 overs losing 8 wickets after losing the toss against New Zealand. For New Zealand, Amelia Kerr and Rosemary Mair took 2–2 wickets. At the same time, Lea Tahuhu, Sophie Devine and Leg Kasparek took 1–1 wicket.

Team India got the first blow on the second ball of the third over and Smriti Mandhana was dismissed by 11 runs. After this, Tanya Bhatia and Shefali Verma partnered 50 runs but Tanya Bhatia was dismissed for 23 in the 10th over.

Before Team India’s turnaround, Jemima Rodriguez also returned to the pavilion after scoring 10 runs. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur was also out behind Jemima. She could only score 1 run. India suffered a major setback in the 14th over of the innings and Shefali was caught for 46 runs.

India suffered a sixth setback in the 16th over and Veda Krishnamurthy was dismissed for 6 runs. After this, New Zealand got their 7th success on the first ball of the 18th over and Deepti Sharma was dismissed for 8 runs. After this Radha Yadav was also run out after scoring 14 runs.


2 Consecutive sixes of Shefali

After the first wicket fell in the third over, Shefali and Tanya Bhatia handled Team India’s innings. Shefali appeared in her color in the 5th over. He cleared his plans by hitting two sixes in a row. However, Shefali Verma missed the half-century and was dismissed for 46 off a six off the 5th ball of the 14th over. In this innings, he hit 3 sixes and 4 fours.

Apart from Shefali, Tanya Bhatia scored 23 runs, Radha Yadav 14 runs, Smriti Mandhana scored 11 runs. At the same time, Shikha Pandey and Jemima added 10–10 runs to their respective accounts.
