India made history by a staggering win over South Africa on the 3rd Day of third test series in Ranchi. India was inexorable in their pursuit of the first-ever whitewash over South Africa in a Test series. This massive defeat for South Africa has paved the way for the Indian team to reach the cusp of a historic moment in their home grounds. Following Rohit Sharma’s incredible performance of 212 runs, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja contributed with unsurpassed bowling which helps them to make a crushing victory against South Africa.
Before winning the final test in Ranchi with 212 runs, India won the first test in Vizag with 203 runs and the second one in Pune with 137 runs and an innings. Buried under India’s mammoth run rate and Rohit Sharma’s 212 runs, the Proteas could not offer much resistance from getting whitewash at the end of 3rd Day of final test series.
Key Highlights of Rohit Sharma’s Impeccable performance:
Rohit Sharma is considered as one of the best white-ball batsmen of this era. His tremendous hunger for huge run rate set him apart from any other batsman in recent times. No one is as consistent as him in scoring hundreds in most of the matches within limited over. No one ever has scored 500 in a single edition of the World Cup as well. Despite of his unparallel performance in one-days, his inability to deliver much-required solidity to the middle order was observed as a reason for concern in Test series.
It was decided that Sharma will open the batting along with Mayank Agarwal for test series against South Africa. This decision was touted as Sharma’s final chance to save his test career. He repaid the faith of the team management in 3 tests with a double hundred and 529 runs as an opener in the series.
More than scoring 529 runs, his uncluttered mind seems to be even more responsible for him to deliver an unsurpassed performance.
After a remarkable triumph on Tuesday, he tweeted “Very assertive and clinical, that’s how I would like to put it across this entire month. Extremely happy to be part of an incredible Indian team”.
