The real ‘Test’ of Team India, a strong contender for the World Test Championship, is about to begin. This year, the Indian team has to play six Tests abroad. It will begin with a two-Test series against New Zealand from 21 February.
On their first overseas tour of the year 2020, India will not only face the challenge of standing on the fast and actionable pitches of Kiwiland but will also be a question of saving the reputation of their number one Test team. Before the Wellington Test, Virat spoke to the media and also stated his plan for the playing eleven.
In the press conference before the match, Kohli described Prithvi Shaw as a very talented player. Prithvi Shaw, who has scored a century and a half-century in two Test matches, will open the innings with Mayank Agarwal, who has already played nine Test matches. Prithvi played 20, 24 and 40 innings for India in the last one-day against New Zealand. Aggarwal has scored 872 runs with the help of three centuries and three half-centuries. This means Shaw will play his first Test match abroad. They will get a chance to start the innings in the absence of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan.
Team India’s strength in Tests is its middle order. Cheteshwar Pujara comes to bat at number three. The fourth position is captained by captain Virat Kohli himself. At number five is Ajinkya Rahane, the vice-captain of the team. Hanuma Vihari, who was the only Indian batsman to score a century in a practice match against New Zealand, will have the responsibility of strengthening the team in the lower order. Vihari also bowls spin when the opportunity arises.
It was believed that the in-form KL Rahul would return to the Test team, but this did not happen. In such a situation, Ridhiman Saha will join the team as a wicketkeeper. Rishabh Pant, sitting out in the One-Day and then T20 series, did not show any such game in the practice match that he should be looked after by Saha.
Virat Kohli also praised Ishant Sharma, who is returning from injury, who has been declared fit in the fitness test held before the first Test. If Ishant believes, he looks quite normal bowling before an ankle injury and throwing the ball in a good area. Mane Jaspreet Bumrah and Mohammed Shami will be joined by Ishant.
