The old name of the country presently called Iran was Persia. The government there told all countries in 1935 that it should no longer be called Persia and called Iran. This country has changed its name many times. From 1953 to 1970, it was called the Kingdom of Cambodia. From 1970 to 1975 it was known as the Khmer Republic. When the monarchy was re-established in the country, its name was changed again to the Kingdom of Cambodia.
Myanmar’s earlier name was Burma. The military government there renamed it Myanmar in 1989.
